A Heap of Anime Updates Arrived During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays provide a multitude of pastimes much better than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, feasting on delicious food, and harnessing deep breathing to avoid arguing with relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in do all these things and more. Nevertheless, the showbiz industry never sleeps, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments came out over the holidays, and should you overlooked some of them, here is a compilation of the most exciting bits.

One-Punch Man Season 3 Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)

Truly the most surprising piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. Season 3 will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain leading the project. Thankfully this time, director Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the outset, which is seen as a positive development. However, the main art for the continuation is the same image the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This leads one to believe that, nowadays, they are probably teasing the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Poised to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, distinguishing itself not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the fair treatment of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime based on a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the best-known magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a excellent choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series proved it maintained the fans' support and positive sentiment, and now fans are thrilled about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Now in the Works

Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been going on for years, and season 6 was a further stellar entry. It turns out that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia Into an Anime Series

One more studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime titled Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my must-watch list.

The Tougen Anki Series Will Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete air date has not been disclosed yet.
