A former US state department official, Dan Fried, commented, "Putin is attempting to disrupt the momentum toward greater pressure on Russia." He added, "We'll see tomorrow, but the likelihood of achieving a ceasefire by pushing Russia to get serious seem to have diminished."

This development came after the US president had recently been strengthening his rhetoric toward Russia until the recent conversation with Putin, which the Kremlin characterized as "highly open and trustful."

EU Energy Sanctions and Market Impact

The European Union have set a mandate for fuel importers into the European Union to demonstrate their fuels are not sourced from Russian oil, according to a document released on Thursday. This measure is included in the EU's upcoming prohibition on purchases of refined products processed from Russian crude, which is included in its latest restrictive measures against Russia over its war in the region.

Financial analysts observed that investment patterns appeared to be considering the potential end of Indian imports of Russian crude. Some Indian refiners are getting ready to cut purchases from Russia, with expectations of a phased reduction, as reported by insiders familiar with the situation.

"This represents a favorable turn for the crude oil price as it would remove a big customer of Russian oil," commented a market analyst, noting that crude values were steady on the trading day.

Military Developments and Infrastructure Strikes

A massive Moscow's drone and rocket attack hit energy infrastructure in eastern Ukraine on the same day, causing disruptions in eight regions. Authorities in Ukraine reported that Russia deployed hundreds of drones and many of missiles, along with aerial munitions.

"During this fall, the Russians use every single day to attack at our energy infrastructure," declared Ukraine's president, adding that strikes affected the areas of Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy and western Ukraine.

International Political Responses
